Joannie Dubé
Counselling and Psychotherapy

Meet Joannie
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Hi! I am Joannie. I am registered with the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario as a Qualifying member. I hold a B.A (Hons) in Social Care and a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology. My life experience and my interactions with people have led me to this line of work. For many years, while working in the service industry, I observed people and was fascinated by the human kind. I have gained knowledge and skills through many roles working in community services as a peer support worker, educational assistant, and recreationist. I also volunteered for Providence Care, Hospice Kingston, and Bereaved Family of Ontario.
My growth mindset and goal-oriented personality have brought me to help others and I understand how the self-exploration process can be exciting for some and daunting for others. Having supported individuals from all walks-of-life, I also know that there is rarely a perfect time to start addressing whatever it is that is hindering our lives.
Curious About Counselling?
Unsure this is for you or where to start?

Perhaps you feel like something is off or that you're lacking balance. Or something in your life is no longer making sense for you.
In counselling, we can discuss many topics to help you understand your experience and work on creating positive change.
Here are main topics I focus on with my clients:

Relationships
Working on the patterns of attachment that influence our interactions with others can improve our responses and how we relate to others.
Life Transitions & Grief
Separation, loss of a loved-one, career changes, major moves, parenthood, marriage, retirement, empty-nester stage, going back to school, physical and moral injuries: significant life changes and transitions can cause us to fall off balance.
Identity
Gender, sexuality, and sexual orientation; trying to fit in a new community or different culture; and major life changes may challenge the way we (and others) see ourselves and leave us confused and lost.

Traumatic Experiences
Traumatic experiences are life-altering. They affect the way we react to and interact with others and the world. They affect our sense of self and forever leave an imprint in our minds and bodies. Healing from trauma is a process that requires time, and an approach that is holistic.
Depression & Anxiety
Anxiety and depression impact people's abilities to cope with life and day-to-day challenges, but it does not mean that this cannot change. Addressing our thoughts and feelings, and making shifts in our actions can be a starting point.
Stress & Burnout
Stress can be pervasive and learning to manage it may help us face various situations and events in our lives. Stress that becomes acute and lasting may lead to burnout - thankfully we can work on it and recovery is possible as well as prevention.
Approach and Modalities
Who can I support?
I work with youth 13 and above and adults. I have experience supporting older adults and their families. I also work with couples and offer relationship counselling.
I provide my services in English and French.
